World Cup Volunteers in South Africa

My experience as FIFA volunteer so far has been really chaotic - from day 1, I realised that this would be nothing like the last World Cup in Germany.

Cape Town volunteer uniforms were mistakenly sent to Bloemfontein so many volunteers are only half-dressed, volunteers have not been fed on time and went home hungry each day. The burgers OC ordered were individually scanned by security (lunch delivered at 5pm on the first day!!), one volunteer got robbed in a min-taxi, many of them are unsure what to do each day, today we didn't print out meal vouchers and the stories of frustration goes on.......

However, perhaps this is what makes this World Cup so unique. If we can actually enjoy this experience and use it as an opportunity to work on our 'patience', it all comes down to our mindset on how we deal with things around us. Positive people will always have positive experiences despite all the setbacks.

South Africa hosted many international events before and even though things may seem very disorganised in the background so far, it will stage a great World Cup. This is all part of the African experience! After all, TIA (This is Africa!!!)

I will write more after our opening match in Cape Town tomorrow: Uruguay vs France. Hope things are in place before the match!! :)
